  • Fabric: Light to medium-weight woven fabrics like linen, cotton blends, rayon, viscose, crepe, or silk. The more structured your fabric, the more dramatic the shape of your camisole will be.
  • Format: Print-at-home digital download in US letter or A4 size. A0 copyshop size. A comprehensive instruction booklet is included with the download.
  • Suitable for beginners? Yes. I think this pattern would be suitable for an advanced beginner. Some garment sewing knowledge would be an advantage as attaching the bias binding and forming the straps will require accuracy and precision, but the instructions are designed for beginners and very detailed.

“Etty” Camisole with Scalloped Neckline (+Video)

Download now from Tammy Handmade – FREE

  • Sizes: UK 6 – 24. Bust: 31” – 49” (79 – 124.5 cm).
  • Design: Classic camisole with scalloped neckline detail. Thin straps. Slight A-line silhouette. Straight back.
  • Fabric: Lightweight woven fabrics like linen, cotton blends, rayon, viscose, crepe, satin, or voile.
  • Format: Print-at-home digital download in US letter or A4 size. A0 copyshop size.
  • Instructions: Illustrated instructions are included with the download. A video sew-along is also available to watch here.
  • Suitable for beginners? Yes. I think a beginner could have a go at this pattern but some previous garment sewing experience would be helpful with sewing the scalloped edges. Use a stable fabric such as cotton or linen to make the sewing process easier.

“Linda” Simple V-Neck Camisole

woman wearing a yellow checked camisole top with thin straps, and sewing pattern line drawings of the front and back view

Download now from Wild Orchard Sewing (look for the third button on this page that says “Linda camisole sewing pattern” to download the files) – FREE

  • Sizes:
    • UK 4 – 24 (B-cup). Bust: 31” – 49” (79 – 124 cm).
    • UK 12 – 34 (D Cup). Bust: 39” – 61” (99 – 155 cm).
  • Design: Simple camisole top. V-neckline on the front and back finished with a facing. Thin straps cut on the bias. Bust darts. Fitted around the bust.
  • Fabric: Light to medium-weight woven fabrics. Eg. linen and cotton blends for a cami with some ‘body’. Or rayon/viscose, crepe, satin, chiffon, or silk for a cami with drape.
  • Format: Print-at-home digital download in US letter or A4 paper size (16 pages). A0 copyshop size (1 page). Printable instructions.
  • Suitable for beginners? Yes. The most challenging bit is sewing the thin bias binding straps. Use a stable fabric like cotton or linen to make the sewing process easier. And some of the instructions are brief: “Finish [the raw edge] in your preferred method.” When you see this, just zig-zag the edges if you don’t know what to do and only have a basic sewing machine. This will prevent fraying.

Silky V-Neck Camisole (+Video)

woman wearing a silky cream camisole with a slight v-neckline, and sewing pattern line drawings of the front and back view

Download now from Alissa Montanez – FREE

  • Sizes: XS – XL. Bust: 32” – 42” (81 – 106.5 cm).
  • Design: Classic bias cut camisole top. V-neck front. Straight back. Thin straps. Bust darts. Neckline finished with a facing.

  • Format: Print-at-home digital download in US letter or A4 size.
  • Instructions: Video instructions are available here.
  • Suitable for beginners? No. I think this pattern would better suit an intermediate sewist. Although the style of the camisole is simple, cutting and sewing a garment on the bias can be tricky, especially when working with such slippery fabrics.

DIY Silk Camisole with Straight Neckline

woman wearing a black cami with very thin straps

Read tutorial now on Collective Gen – FREE

  • Sizes: The pattern is created based on your own bust measurement.
  • Design: Minimalist camisole top with straight front and back neckline. Woven cord straps. French seams.
  • Fabric: Light to medium-weight woven fabrics with drape, like silk and silk blends, crepe de chine, satin, and charmeuse
  • Format: The pattern is self-drafted based on your bust measurement. Instructions for how to create your pattern pieces are provided within the blog post along with instructions on how to sew the camisole.
  • Suitable for beginners? No. I think this pattern would better suit an intermediate sewist who can sew clothes without instructions. The style of the camisole is very simple but there is an error in the first step. You should have 2 squares to form the front and back pieces, and these should include EASE so you can breathe and move. There’s also no shaping or darts, meaning this will be a tricky top to fit for people with larger busts and curvy figures.

  • Format: Print-at-home digital pattern in A4 and US letter size. Minimal instructions are included on the blog post.
  • Suitable for beginners? Yes. This is a simple pattern that is suitable for beginners. The instructions are sparse, so some prior sewing experience would be helpful. Choose a more stable fabric to make the sewing process easier.

  • Design: Camisole or singlet style tank top. Scooped neck. Thin elastic straps. Neckline finished with elastic. Straight back. Full length.
  • Fabric:  Light to medium-weight stretch knit fabrics with at least 60% stretch and good recovery. For example, rib knit, waffle knit, cotton spandex, or bamboo jersey.
  • Format: Print-at-home PDF download in US letter or A4 size. Instructions are included as a separate file.
  • Suitable for beginners? Yes. I think an advanced or advanced beginner with some experience sewing knits could have a go at this pattern. The style of the tank is very simple but attaching the elastic straps and getting the tension correct could be difficult for a complete beginner.

  • Fabric: Light to medium-weight woven fabrics like linen, cotton blends, rayon, viscose, crepe, satin, or silk.
  • Format: Print-at-home digital download in US letter or A4 size. A0 copyshop size. Instructions are included within the download.
  • Suitable for beginners? No. I think this pattern would better suit an intermediate sewist. The camisole is cut on the bias which can make for a difficult cutting and sewing process. An advanced beginner could try sewing the camisole in a stable fabric such as cotton or linen before attempting a slippery fabric such as satin or silk.

French seams and darts are also used which can be tricky to sew in a slippery fabric such as silk or crepe.

  • Fabric: Light to medium-weight silk, crepe de chine, or lightweight jersey. Lace for the trim.

Best fabric for camisoles:

If you want a stretchy, fitted cami, the most popular fabrics used by stores are light to medium weight cotton jersey and rib knits. For more drapey styles, viscose/rayon jersey is often used. It’s best to get a knit fabric with elastane/lycra/spandex content for better stretch and recovery.

If you want to make a cami from non-stretchy woven fabric, look for something light to medium weight and smooth. Many store-bought camis are made from drapey fabrics like silk satin, viscose/rayon, and polyester. However, I’ve also seen fine cottons, like cotton lawn, used for nightwear camis that are a bit more structured and boxy.
