Hi, I’m Sara, the owner of Threads Monthly 🙂 We teach 100,000+ people how to sew every month.
I’m looking to hire a team of writers to create articles for this website. I’m eager to turn it into a place that helps people in their sewing journey.
I’m looking for experienced sewists with good knowledge to share. You don’t need industry experience. Being a passionate hobbyist is absolutely fine.
If you’d like to get paid for your sewing knowledge and earn a little extra to pay for your hobby, then this is a great opportunity.
Payment
I pay $50, $100, or $150 (usd) per article, depending on the length and complexity. Article lengths typically range from 500 – 3500 words. Payments are normally made through Paypal.
What sort of sewing content will you create?
- Basic sewing knowledge
- Fabric info
- Step-by-step tutorials
- Occasionally product reviews (where required, products will be sent to you for free)
Credit
Writers will have a bio where you can mention a social media profile if you choose.
However, some articles may need to be ghost-written. For example, if I make a Youtube video about a topic, I may ask a writer to watch it and turn my opinions and experience into an easy-to-read article. This would then be published under my name.
Schedule
Writers will be expected to produce 4 articles per month. The exception is for “backup” writers who only need to write 1 article per month, plus more when required.
It is critical that you don’t miss a publishing date. Writers who consistently miss publishing dates will be let go. For most freelance writers, 4 articles per month is perfect so they have plenty of time to work on it without being overwhelmed.
You can pick up additional articles if you’d like more work.
Writers will receive up to 6 weeks of unpaid holiday leave per calendar year.
Requirements
- Applicants must be able to write in fluent English.
- Applicants must have a domestic sewing machine. Industrial sewing machines can’t be used for tutorials. Our readers use domestic machines.
- Applicants must have examples of their written work and sewing projects.
Ownership
You understand and agree that all photos, videos, written content, and all other media submitted becomes the exclusive property of this website and you do not have the right to republish that content elsewhere.
Legal
This opportunity is available for writers around the world. This is a freelance writing gig and you will be an independent contractor.
Ready? Apply here. I will contact successful candidates on a rolling basis as spots open. Watch out for an email from me (sara@threadsmonthly.com).
7 April 2022 update: the main team has now been hired, but please do apply and you’ll be considered when spots open up again. The only role I’m actively looking for at the moment is a quilter.
