Hi. I’m enjoying reading your very comprehensive reviews before I upgrade my overlocker. I keep reading you refer to a ‘free arm’ for sewing tubes of fabric ie. sleeve ends end I’m assuming. However I can’t see a picture or video of the free arm and how to use it. Hope you can enlighten me. Thanks

Hi Awilda,

I've seen Necchi sewing machines before in Lidl but I haven't looked into the brand. If it was cheap then it won't have the same build quality as more expensive machines, but it will still get the job done. Especially if you're not using it frequently. I would just keep it. Good luck with your new sewing journey! :)

In reply to <a href="https://threadsmonthly.com/brother-4234d-overlocker-review/#comment-1000731">Helen</a>.

Hi Helen,

Do you have any photos of the stitches you're getting? You can email me at sara@threadsmonthly.com

I'm just wondering if it's a threading issue. For example, if the thread isn't going inside the tension discs, the machine won't be able to apply any tension to it, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion to do a tension cheat sheet. It's on my to-do list :)

Hi,
This was the best and very thorough review. I can see you have done a lot of research on this overlocker. I too have this overlocker for the past two years now. The only thing I would’ve liked to have is a cheat sheet for the thread tensions for different fabric thickness.
I have been working with polycotton fabrics and lawn fabrics for some kids dresses and I don’t know what changed, because the thread tensions is all over the place. I went back to the original settings that the machine came with, and is not having it. I went and start with all the settings at 4 but nothing, tried to compare with the pic in the book, but pic in the book is not clear. I have been wasting the entire 4cones of thread to find the correct tensions for the fabric that I work with and still is wrong. I was looking for someone that is more professional than me maybe to post some cheat sheets with the right settings for light to medium fabric on single layer and two layers. I am really struggling to get this going. Hoping someone out there could help me.
Thank you.

Thanks for letting me know.

According to the Brother website, the 2104d should come with the blind stitch, piping, and gathering foot. It says so on the product page, on the "what's in the box" section: https://sewingcraft.brother.eu/en/products/machines/overlocker-machines/overlocker-machines/2104d#2

It might be worth asking the seller about this.
